1. Anxiety Reduction:
A meta-analysis published in July 2024 examined 13 studies involving 824 participants and found that short-term Reiki interventions (≤ 3 sessions) and moderate-frequency sessions (6–8 sessions) significantly reduced health and procedural anxiety. This effect was observed in both patients with chronic conditions and the general adult population.
2. Pain and Fatigue Management in Cancer Patients:
A study published in December 2024 highlighted the impact of Reiki on pain, fatigue, and anxiety in cancer outpatients. Qualitative feedback indicated that participants experienced relaxation, symptom reduction, body sensations, emotions, and gratitude, suggesting Reiki's potential as a complementary therapy for cancer-related symptoms.
3. Mental Health Symptoms:
A systematic review published in 2022 assessed 14 randomized placebo-controlled trials and concluded that Reiki consistently demonstrates a greater therapeutic effect over placebo for certain mental health symptoms, including stress and depression. The evidence was rated as high quality for clinically relevant levels of stress and depression.
4. Pain and Anxiety in Adults:
A review published in 2014 analyzed seven studies involving cancer patients, post-surgical patients, and community-dwelling older adults. The review found evidence suggesting that Reiki therapy may be effective for pain and anxiety, with effect sizes ranging from small to very large.
5. Quality of Life Enhancement:
Studies have shown that Reiki can significantly reduce pain and fatigue in patients with chronic conditions, enhance comfort levels, and alleviate symptoms of depression and anxiety, thereby improving overall quality of life.
